That is the only time in the movie when he gives an electrifying performance. Perhaps the only time he does give off the Ranveer Singh vibe is when he dances alongside Deepika Padukone in the latter’s special appearance in the song ‘ Current Laga Re‘. Singh has proven his mantle and versatility as an actor right from his collaborations with Sanjay Leela Bhansali where he was seen in more demanding roles to his debut in Shetty’s cop universe with Simmba and Sooryavanshi (even his cameo of a few minutes in the latter was way more entertaining and memorable than his double role in Cirkus) but here the actor offers just as much as the underwritten characters of Jacqueline Fernandez and Pooja Hegde - which is not a lot. One might argue that Singh has the most electrifying energy on and off screen but the actor fails to breathe that life into the film. If you get past this then don’t get too excited because the cringefest has only just begun. In doing so, anybody who comes in contact with the second Roy also gets electrified and the two break into a dance to the tunes of the ’70s. Meanwhile, each time he does this famous ‘final act’ where he holds two extremely high voltage cable wires together, the second Roy gets the electric shock and survives it (you’re not supposed to use your brain, remember?). Singh is seen in a double role as Roy where one character is immune to getting electric shocks and uses that to continue the circus his father left behind after he was killed in an accident. In moments where the movie forgets to evoke humour, it tries to send a social message and fails at both. That this “experiment” is conducted in a blatantly unethical manner is the least of the problems in Cirkus. The story follows two set of two twins, Roy (Ranveer Singh) and Joy (Varun Sharma), who get exchanged intentionally by a doctor (Murali Sharma) for his selfish motives but for reasons which aim at the greater good of the society. The filmmaker’s latest is based on Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors but with Cirkus, much like the spelling, he gets everything else in the film wrong too.
Yet, no matter how hard you try not to question the science behind what is happening on the screen, you can’t help but think of all the things you could have done in those 138 minutes instead of watching this film. Cars, action, and the Rohit Shetty veteran cast that comprises recurring and highly talented comic actors. There are several films like Avatar: The Way of Water, Bhediya, Salaam Venky, Drishyam 2, Thank God, Ram Setu, Kantara, Doctor G, Ponniyin Selvan 1, Vikram Vedha, Brahmastra, Liger, Chup, Laal Singh Chadddha, Raksha Bandhan, Sita Ramam, Darlings, Shabaash Mithu, Shamshera, Vikrant Rona, Jugjugg Jeeyo, Khuda Haafiz 2, Aashram 3, Major, F3, Anek.Two blockbuster franchises and multiple hit movies later, the audience knows what to expect from a Rohit Shetty film. However, this is not the first time a film has got leaked on day 1 of its release. Tamilrockers, Telegram, and Movierulz are piracy websites that leak the latest releases.
